Weyland-Yutani Internet Services is on the move once again. Many
of you have been aware that I have personally been paying out
anywhere from $500.00 to $600.00 Canadian dollars per month to keep
this service running. Even though I did receive several donations
from several sources, for which I am eternally grateful, it did not
-- by any means -- completely offset the operating costs for the
service. I'm happy that everyone who makes use of Weyland-Yutani was
able to enjoy the luxury of a world-class colocation facility while
it lasted.
The new facility that we're moving to isn't as fast (a mere
10mbit service as opposed to an OC48 equivalent connection), not as
well-connected to the outside world, and definitely not redundant
(in the Internet route sense), but it is provided at a zero cost to
me. I hope that this new connection will still facilitate everyone's
needs. If you have any concerns or questions about the new
connection's details, please feel free to email me.
Unfortunately, we've had to abandon the old machine (the current
ganymede, at 64.69.69.113) in favor of a slower one for the time
being. The reason for this is that my account is slightly overdue
with my colocation provider, even after the termination of service
date (August 1st, 2001). Even though my colocation provider is aware
that I am taking a severe personal loss for running Weyland-Yutani,
they insisted on inforcing the company policy of retaining my
equipment until a zero balance is achieved.
Thus, we must live with this slightly slower machine for the time
being. I'm sure that it will last for the month or two that it will
be serving us. The new machine is equipped with 192MB RAM (as
opposed to 320MB), a much smaller disk array, and a slightly slower
CPU (350MHz as opposed to 500MHz).
I would like to thank everyone who has supported Weyland-Yutani
over the past several years, and am happy to continue providing
hosting services to interesting and unique projects at no cost.
